I was going to say the same, you can get a good aerial (from directly above) from google maps satellite view. It is amusing, you can even see the car parked in front, etc.

What a wonderful tribute! It is always nice to look into the beauty of a new bloom, and think of someone you love!

I heard about your father's passing, and wanted to express my sincere condolences. It is tremendously hard to say good-bye to a parent. Im glad your last memories were fond, and that your family was able to be with him.

All the best,
Laura.

Hi,

I started considering using seaweed around my garden because in a recent BBC TV programme called "Coast", it was recommended and described as the best natural slug repellant there is-because of the salt. We are plagued with slugs and snails and they eat virtually everything I plant. I don't want to use chemical repellants.
I could easily gather seaweed because I'm only a ¼ hour ffom a beach but would worry the salt content might do more harm than the seaweed would do good.
Do you have an opinion on this?
Thanks

Have hubby do a dump run is on my list too! Sadly or trailer had a meltdown when he last got me dirt. Hopefully he will have some time to fix it this weekend and then I can get moving on the rest of my list. Bravo for getting so much done on yours!

Very valuable information, I've just started an organic vegetable garden on my back porch . I live in Jamaica so I have access to the beach. I'll definately be trying seaweed on my veggies. Thanks this is really interesting.

I love this Pink Lady Flowering Quince. It grows in yards in the Carmichael area (near Sacramento, CA) where I live. It's a more rural area of Sacramento. For 2 years I have searched every nursery in the Sacramento area for this color. No one has it. Last year I settled for 6 big pots of a light pink color of the Flowering Quince. It's blooming now and pretty but I just want so much to see that bright pink "Pink Lady" variety in my yard. I am searching again this year with no luck again. Hard to believe it's so hard to find. The nurserys carry white, varigated pink/white and red. Boooo!

This is truly a remarkable tree (we call them Mimosa trees) and the fragrance from the flowers is quite heavenly. Cleanup from the falling flowers is a bit of a pain however (if you have to keep your sidewalk clean) . And it has powerful roots that can damage a home if it is planted too close. I believe the almost alien beauty and peach-perfume-like scents outweigh any of the downsides. We have a few in New York City and they do quite well in a front or back yard garden. Wait till the fall and grab a few seed pods for your own property and they will grow almost anywhere - with no special care- allow 6-8 years for your first flowers.
