Anne’s Garden

God made rainy days so gardeners could get the housework done.

Identify me!

While picking beans today I noticed that one of them had climbed up what I thought was a weed, but I don’t think it is:

It looks like onion and garlic, but don’t those live under the dirt?

Here is my first harvest of runner beans (well actually second as my mom picked some last week).  I plan on celebrating this harvest with a plate of beans in cheese sauce and a glass of red wine for dinner tonight.

What’s blooming in your garden this week?

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

Beans in cheese sauce – now that sounds good. I usually only have broccoli or cauliflower in cheese sauce.

I’m not sure what your mystery plant is but it looks familiar.

Um. That first thing scares me.

And yum. Beans. I can’t wait – 13 days until I can start digging in my garden! Of course, I’ve never gardened before, but I look forward to trying.

Those look excellent! What a nice harvest!

I have no clue about your mystery plant. It certainly looks interesting though.

I’m not sure if you ever got an answer, but your “identify me” plant is sometimes called a walking onion. The stalk eventually falls over, and the new set hopes to take root 2-3 feet from the mother plant.

If you search for my ” Egyptian Walking Onions” post there is a picture on my blog. I’m not totally positive about your plant since alliums sometimes do some weird things when it comes to reproduction. All it takes is one little bulb from a friend to get the Egyptians started.

Thanks guys! I had no idea such an onion existed. I’ll have to look it up, Cheers!
