Anne’s Garden

God made rainy days so gardeners could get the housework done.

Another sunny spring day

You know summer is not too far away when you weed in your flip flops!

I spent a few hours in the garden today, continuing to cut back the masses of giant grasses in the front yard. I also cut a large woody lavender right back and now I’m worried I cut it back too much. After filling a few bags with waste for green pick-up, we gave up and have now piled it in the front yard for burning. So much for aspiring to be super duper eco-friendly gardeners.

Speaking of gardeners, I hired one to come in this week and prune the fruit trees. I was too scared to do it myself and I think some things are best left to the professionals. It was a good thing actually as she was able to identify my fruit trees. We have two pears, two apples (one grafted with three varieties), one plum and one apricot .. damn or is it peach? Time will tell I guess.

Here are a few pics from today. First some groovy fern like thing emerging from the soil:

And some general spring prettiness:

What’s blooming in your garden this week?

Hi Anne, I just came across your blog and wanted to tell you that it, and your garden, are beautiful! I’m looking forward to seeing more of it this season (from way out here in Ontario).
