Anne’s Garden

God made rainy days so gardeners could get the housework done.

Trying to be bear aware but ….

For the second night in a row, a little (or big?) bugger has knocked down what I thought was a sturdy fence and managed to unscrew the lid to one of my compost bins! I have two bins similar to this:

I follow the composting rules and my yards is (was) fenced. What else can I do to keep the bears away??

You need to get a “scarebear” for your yard obviously!

I have had good luck with spritzing compost bins and garbage cans with ammonia or bleach. You have to reapply it after rain but it is a safe deterrent. An excellent and safe product available through Home Hardware is ‘Scarecrow’, an motion activated sprinkler. Works great!
